The economic and social development of Romania is supported by a great number of non-reimbursable grants in the accession process to the European Union. In addition to the facilities offered at central level, the local authorities may offer a series of further advantages and forms of support. An important financial source is represented by the European Union funds.
The most important forms of support and subsidies are the following:
- Profit tax rate of 16%.
- Exemption from payment of VAT of the industrial equipment and agricultural machines, as well as of the raw materials and other articles that not produced or are in a short supply in the county.
- Wage subsidies when employing formerly unemployed people, young professionals or disabled people. The amount of subsidy can reach up to 150% of the national minimum wage and can be obtained for a period of maximum 18 months.
- Facilities offered for the training and retraining of labour force.
- Additional subsidies and forms of support for direct investment promotion with significant influence on economy:
- Possibility of using accelerated amortization;
- Duty-free technological equipment if needed for the investment;
- Postponement of VAT payment when purchasing new equipment till the 25th of next month from the start of investment;
- Rescheduling of financial losses for the next five years from the profit.
- National and European Union grants (e.g. for infrastructure investment, for innovative development).
