Satu Mare City is located at an important road juncture, being linked with the major neighbouring cities (Cluj-Napoca, Baia Mare, Oradea, Zalău) by national roads with frequent traffic. From the point of view of accessibility its international airport also plays an essential role.
Its favourable geographic position at the cross-roads of three countries has a special strategic importance: the border crossings are located at Border Station Petea-Csengersima (Romania-Hungary) open for road and goods traffic, and at Border Station Halmeu-Djakovo (Romania- Ukraine) open for road and rail traffic.
The city is passing through a significant social and cultural development process, proven by the increased level of investments and real estate prices, and also by the development of the educational system. As many as 6000 enterprises are present on its territory, out of which approximately 1000 are foreign-owned. 71% of the total investments of the Satu Mare county is concentrated in Satu Mare city. The most popular fields for investment are the machine building industry and light industry (representing 50% of total investments). The most significant investments come from Germany, Denmark and France.
