The Environmental Protection Agency, in collaboration with the Satu Mare City Hall and S.C. Electrolux Romania S.A., have begun, starting with the month of December 2006, the “Selective collection of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Campaign”.
The goal of the campaign follows these European Union guidelines:




        • selective gathering of 2 kg WEEE/inhabitant by the end of the year; the quantity being accepted through the Government Decision 448 / 2005;

        • the disposal of WEEEs at the collection points specially designed for this purpose.


In Satu Mare, it is possible to discard of WEEEs at the collection point on Aleea Mureşului from Micro14 (Old Thermal Plant) according to the following schedule:

Monday – Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment - WEEE are electrical and electronic equipments which make up waste, including all components, parts and consumables, that make up the equipment at the moment it becomes waste.

• The following electrical and electronic equipment falls under the Government Decision 448 / 2005:

- large appliances for home use;
- small appliances for home use;
- IT & C equipment;
- Common use equipment;
- Lighting equipment;
- Electrical and electronic tools (except for industrial-sized tools);
- toys, sporting and recreational equipment;
- medical equipment (except for those infected and bio-hazardous);
- surveillance and control instruments;
- vending machines.





SELECTIVE COLLECTION OF WEEEs

• The owners must deposit the WEEEs at the specially designed collection points.
• The producers must assure a selective collection and the transport of the WEEEs from private citizens;
• The collection and transportation will be done in such a way as to optimize the reuse and recycling of the components or whole appliances that can be reused and recycled.
• The distributors which bring onto the market new products are obliged to ensure the necessary conditions for the cost-free collection of the WEEEs, or for certain cash reimbursement, depending on the value of the reusable components;
• the local public authorities administration has the obligation to separately collect WEEEs from private citizens.

TREATMENT of WEEEs – removal of dangerous parts and liquids (condensers, batteries, cartridges, electrical cables, etc.).
