The building which lodges today the art section of the County Museum, it was built in the second half of the XX – th century, in neo – Gothic style , being declared a historical and architectural monument – known in the city as "casa Vecsey".
On this field there was in the XVIII-th a building which served as a deposit for the fortress Satu Mare, after the defeat of the revolt of Francisc Rakoczy the 2^nd . The building has a planimetry in shape of “L” being composed by two different corps as an architectural stile, coming from two different construction periods.

On the place of two edifices there was an old building with one floor , with an entrance portal integrated by an arch in full center, belonging to the fortress of Satu Mare.

In 1798, the baron Vecsey buys the building, realized in baroque stile in shape of “L” having an open corridor with semicircular arcades. Today there is one more corp kept from this construction, which is the oldest civil edifice in the city.
In 1842 the neologistic stile building was build, with one floor. The facade is built from two registers with nine ogival openings representing at the ground floor access doors, from which just the one in the center is functional, and at the first floor, disposed symmetrically, the windows are delimited by simple frames, with the exception of the central window, above the entrance gate stylized in a Gothic manner.
The ensemble image of the building is equilibrated, the triangular front offers a plus of monumentality, with a circular opening there is a grill. The bolting system is differentiated with a cross jack , semi-cylindrically or flat. Ulterior, on the court yard side there has been added a corp meant to shelter the steps.

The base exposition of the art section of the County Museum contains the creations of some representative artistic personalities of the Romanian plastic art from the 20^th century : Henri Catargi, Dumitru Ghiaţă, Eustaţie Stoenescu, Iosif Iser, Corneliu Baba, Aurel Ciupe, Petre Abrudan, Ştefan Popescu, Bene Jozsef, Ion Sima, Ion Jalea, Ion Irimescu, Vida Gheza, Ion Vlasiu, Ovidiu Maitec as well as creations belonging to our citizens Aurel Popp and Paul Erdos. The collection contains the creations of some important representatives from the Artistic Center from Baia Mare as : Ziffer Sandor, Mikola Andras, Kadar Gheza, Eugen Pascu, Mund Hugo etc. The collection of contemporary plastic art contains the works of prestige artists as : Ion Sălişteanu, Ion Pacea, Constantin Piliuţă, Ion Gheorghiu, Vasile Kazar, Octav Grigorescu, Marcel Chirnoagă, Brăduţ Covaliu, Vasile Dobrian, Paulovics Laszlo, Toros Gabor and as well as more others and some of our citizens.

The galleria- shop which shelters the donation of the sketcher from Satu Mare was opened in 1986. In 1996 the creation shop and the exposition opened .

Paul Erdos was born on the 2 of November 1916 in the village Horezu Mare, from our county. His artistic studies are made at the Paint Collonie from Baia Mare (1931), Budapest, Paris, Venice, Rome (1938). Between 1944-1945 he is deported along with his family from Satu Mare to Auschwitz, but he returned by itself. Between 1946-1952 he is present in the artistic life and the county culture. From 1952 he becomes the Director of the Theater from Baia Mare and secretary of the Plastic Artists Union, Baia Mare.
Paul Erdos illustrated some books from the authors : Szemler Ferenc-Valtozo , Changing Regions, 1960, Heredi Gustav-Lelekmelegito/The agitator, Mihai Eminescu – Luceafarul, multi language edition Romano – Hungarian; 1964 Miko Ervin – Today begins tomorrow; 1965 Szemler Ferenc – Everything is immortal, 1966, Mihai Negulescu- Pintea's City; 1969 Alexandru Vlahuţă – The picturesquely Romania, 1980, Anamaria Pop – The Raven's Step. During his life, for the value of his art he obtained titles and diplomas : The state Award (1963), Honored Master of Art (1964), The cultural Worth first Class (1976), The special Award of the Plastic Artists Union (1982). He had personal expositions in the principal cities of the country : Oradea, Carei, Timişoara, Cluj, Baia Mare, Tg. Mureş, Braşov, Bucharest, Sf. Gheorghe etc. He died at 17^th of November 1987.
